SUPARTZ® is an injectable solution made from hyaluronate, also called hyaluronan, which is similar to a substance normally found within the joints. Osteoarthritis (OA) patients who are not finding pain relief from treatments such as physical therapy, exercise, and medication such as acetaminophen can get SUPARTZ® injections. SUPARTZ® is thought to work by providing lubrication and shock absorption in the knee joint, helping the knee to experience smoother movement which reduces the pain. Qualified medical personnel can inject SUPARTZ® once a week for up to five injections in a row, but according to a medical study, some patients get osteoarthritis relief for at least three months from only three injections. Other hyaluronic acid (HA) injections require a specific number of injections, but medical personnel can customize SUPARTZ® treatments to fit their individual patient's needs. However, it is still important to follow the injection schedule when administering SUPARTZ®.
