SCULPTRA® is a sterile, non-pyrogenic suspension containing microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid, used as an implant. Poly-L-lactic acid, which is the crystalline form of polulactic acid, is a synthetic polymer from the alpha-hydroxy-acid family that is biodegradable and biocompatible. SCULPTRA® comes as a sterile, dry powder that you reconstitute by adding sterile water before injecting it into a patient. You can use SCULPTRA® to correct large amounts of volume loss, such as lipoatrophy, which is facial fat loss. You can also inject SCULPTRA® to improve aging skin, correcting skin depressions such as wrinkles, folds, skin creases, or scars. How deep you inject SCULPTRA® and how much product you use depends on the treatment area and the results you want, although generally you would inject SCULPTRA® using a 26G needle into the deep dermis or subcutaneously. More detailed information about using SCULPTRA® is included in the package insert, and you should familiarize yourself with SCULPTRA® and its education materials before using the product. Only medical personnel with experience correcting facial volume, who are authorized by local legislation, should administer SCULPTRA®.
